Victorious Weekend for Westwood and Ogilvy

World Number One Lee Westwood (SYNR-G shoes and SciFlex glove) continued his fine run of form to win the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City. The Englishman was two shots off the lead after the opening round, but from then on the story was all about Westwood as he fired a stunning eight-under-par 64 in the second round to take a three-shot lead, a lead he was never going to give up.

The world number one made the final round a no-contest as he built on his five-stroke lead overnight with four birdies and not a single bogey through the first 16 holes. He dropped a shot on the 17th and then finished like a true champion, chipping in on the 18th to claim an eight shot lead and the first place prize of $1.25m (£792,125).

Speaking after the event Westwood commented “I’ve been coming here for several years and it’s a title I’ve always wanted to win. I’ve come close a few times, lost in play-offs, but it’s always very special”.

The win for Westwood was complimented with fellow FJ ambassador, Geoff Ogilvy (FJ ICON and StaSof glove), winning the 2010 Australian Open Championship.

The 33-year-old eased to a four shot victory  at the $1.5 million event at The Lakes course in Sydney, ticking off one of his career goals to win his national title. Ogilvy, the world’s No. 43-ranked golfer, finished on a 19- under-par total of 269, after earlier rounds of 68, 65 and 67.

Speaking after his win the Australian commented “This is the one we all want to win as Australians,” Ogilvy said after claiming his second victory of 2010. “One of the goals we all have as a kid is to win this tournament.”
