Gary Woodland Wins First PGA Tour Title

21/03/2011

Gary Woodland (FJ ICON) won the Transitions Championship with a final round 67.  Woodland started the day at 11 under, 2 strokes off of the 54 hole lead and quickly took advantage of his herculean length with a birdie at the par 5 1st to close the gap on the leaders.  His steady play continued through the front nine as he finished with a bogey free 34.

His second nine was a different story; it included 5 birdies, 3 bogeys, and 1 par on the eighteenth hole to finish off victorious.  Woodland's power is usually the topic of conversation; but it was his putter that saved the day as he needed only 23 putts in the final round.   After the round Woodland said, "One thing that helped me was putting, and today it saved me...Luckily, it won me a golf tournament."

This is Woodland's first PGA Tour victory, it also earned him a coveted spot in this years Masters Tournament where his combination of length and touch around the greens could make him a contender.

Nick Watney Finds Redemption at the WGC Cadillac Championship

14/03/2011

Nick Watney (FJ Sport and Pure Touch Limited) won the WGC Cadillac Championship with clutch par saves on the back nine and a birdie on the famed 18th of the Blue Monster.

Two years ago Watney came inches away from entering a playoff in the same tournament and he wanted to make sure this Sunday did not end that same way.  Watney began the day 2 strokes off of the 54 hole lead and his round started quickly with back to back birdies.  Watney's stellar play continued all day as he took a one stroke lead into the par 4 18th, where on the previous day he made a double bogey.  This did not phase Watney as he bombed a 300 yard drive right down the middle of the fairway and his approach shot left him a slightly downhill 12 footer for the win.  He pumped his fist as the putt rolled into the cup securing his first WGC title and third career victory.

"I think I settled the score. If you keep working hard, you get back in that situation. And luckily today, I was able to do a little better." Watney said of his victory.
